Global affairs encompasses international relations, diplomacy, global governance and a multitude of other disciplines that address the world’s growing interdependence among states, economies, societies and cultures. The study of international affairs teaches students to understand the complex forces that shape today’s world, enabling them to become leaders in an ever-changing globalized economy.
A career in global affairs may lead to positions at a variety of government agencies, as well as in international nongovernmental organizations and private corporations that specialize in business, finance and telecommunications. The study of global issues also opens doors in the nonprofit sector to positions with foundations, trade associations, public interest groups and think tanks.
Post-decolonization, the establishment of international organizations like the United Nations contributed to the globalization of politics by providing platforms for dialogue and conflict resolution. The involvement of new nations in these negotiations led to alliances and conflicts that reshaped the geopolitical landscape, demonstrating the complex nature of sovereignty and collaboration in the global arena.
